Committee

President.

The president of the club is Ron Langston (see Famous Riders). Ron adds prestige to the club, attends most of the committee meetings and acts as Steward at some of the nationals run by the club. Get Ron reminiscing at one of the club meetings and you will be enthralled.

Chairman.

The club chairman is Michael Metcalfe (known as Mick), for the last few years the club secretary. Pressure of work, designing gearbox components for the Subaru rally car, has forced Mick to stand down from the secretary’s role. Mick has progressed through modern trials to pre-65, and is now a successful competitor on his Cotton in the Sammy Miller series. He is also a great fan of Greeves.

Mick can be contacted at chairman@stratford-upon-avonmcc.org.uk.

Vice Chairmen.

Pete Barnett.

Mick Chapman

Secretary.

The secretary is David Hayward. David is one of our longest serving members, having joined the Club nearly 40 years ago when he was competing in scooter trials, which he did successfully in the UK and also on the Continent. He has continued to compete in trials (on a proper motorcycle!) until today but he now particularly enjoys Long Distance Trials on his Honda TLR. Dave retired recently after running a Stratford town centre hardware business for 40 years, which has given him more time to devote to his immaculate collection of classic motorcycles and cars and, thankfully for the Club, to become our General Secretary. Dave can be contacted at secretary@stratford-upon-avonmcc.org.uk.

Assistant Secretary.

John Cart

Membership Secretary

Pete Barnett known as Pete, has stepped down from the secretary’s position due to an expanding family. Pete came into trials from road racing, his best win being the Isle of Man Manx Newcomers Race. He’s hard to keep up with in a long distance trial. He has been responsible for the club trials series for the last few years and has made an excellent job of it. Pete can be contacted at membership.secretary@stratford-upon-avonmcc.org.uk.

Social Secretary

Mick Chapman.

Treasurer.

The treasurer is Alan Wright known as Wrighty, (see Famous Riders). Alan was for several years Midland Centre Champion, at one time a works rider for Suzuki, has won the SSDT pre-65 event and is now a well respected pre-75 scrambler. An obvious choice as treasurer as he used to work for the Inland Revenue. Since his early retirement he can now concentrate on making money from his ‘Trico’ business and the off road show he runs. As hard to get club funds out of him as his own cash....

Club Captain.

The Club Captain is Alan Newman. Alan is a quiet person who does an enormous amount of work in setting out sections for the club’s trials. Alan rides in modern trials, is a member of the TRF, and knows his way round many of the unclassified roads in his locality. Vital knowledge for the long distance trial.

Life Members.

Lol Worthington. Lol, along with his wife June, is one of the club’s hardest workers. He applies for permits, liaises with the observers and usually observes himself. As the thought of riding a motorcycle turns him pale, this is quite amazing. It was brought about by both his sons being quality trials riders. His other great loves are Scotties, Speedway and driving boy racer cars. Not bad for a converted Mancunian.

Bing Nason, who now lives in Spain with his wife Wendy, was for many years General Secretary of the club. He also acted as secretary of the meeting for many club events.

Web Master.

The web master is Richard Gill (known variously as Gilly, Grumpy, Stainless and Maddog). Richard is Secretary of the Meeting for the major events - mainly due to his computer knowledge. Richard started riding in 1958 after joining BSA as an apprentice and working with Mike Winwood. Never a natural rider, he regards bikes as a challenge. Constantly heard saying ‘there is nowt as good as trials folk’. Has now taken up angling, much to the disgust of his trials mates.
